Guided Tours of the Museum

1) The general guided tour of the museum presents the information about the nature, history and indigenous peoples of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands;
2) The general guided tour of «Fauna of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands» Hall is designed to help visitors to get to know the diversity of inhabitants of forests and seas of the island region, a rich world of birds, salmonid fishes and animals listed in the Red Book of the Sakhalin region;
3) Guided tour «Ancient Cultures. Indigenous Peoples» is focused on the ancient past of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands based on items found during archaeological excavations conducted by Sakhalin archaeologists, and also tells about the daily life and beliefs of indigenous peoples living on the islands in the Sakhalin region Ц the Ainu, the Nivkh and the Uilta;
4) A guided tour of «Discoveries and Studies of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands in XVII-XIX Centuries» Hall informs about the results of Russian, Japanese and European expeditions, about the establishment of a border between Russia and neighboring countries — China and Japan;
5) A guided tour of "Penal Servitude on Sakhalin Island“ Hall provides interesting facts about the history of Sakhalin from 1869 to 1906 based on original exhibits of that time (shackles, key and lock from the punishment cell, documents and photographs)
6) A guided tour of «History of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands in the First Half of the XX Century» Hall tells is designed to describe the history of the Russian-Japanese war of 1904–1905, the fate of northern and southern parts of Sakhalin in the period from 1905 to 1945 and the last stage of the Second World War (the South-Sakhalin liberation operation and landing operations in the Kuril Islands in August 1945);
7) A guided tour of «History of Geological Development of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands» Hall provides general information about the history of the Earth, the history of the geological development of the island of Sakhalin from the late Cretaceous to the present, with modern geological processes taking place on Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands. There are unique replicas in the exposition — Sakhalin dinosaur (Nipponosaurus sachalinensis) and fossil mammal Desmostylus hesperus, fossils of plants and animals, whose age are estimated as about 60 million years.
