Throughout the week the guides of the Sakhalin Regional Museum of Local History conducted tours in the «History of the Sakhalin Region in the First Half of the Twentieth Century» Hall dedicated to the 76th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Interactive classes on making the model of the best tank of the Great Patriotic War T-34 were conducted for children from summer camp at school 23 and from Shagami Childrens Center, Gazprom employees, members of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk military unit № 5530 and guests of the regional capital.
Northern part of Sakhalin was the home front almost the entire war, here the people worked for victory. The exposition presents photographs of the Okha Sopheyskoye-on-Amur oil pipeline, built in the cold winter of 19411942. It has played an important role in supplying fuel to the Russian Far East and Eastern Siberia. Visitors learned about hard conditions in which Sakhalin oil workers, coal miners, fishermen worked tireless during the war, about selfless dedication, loyalty and affection of women to their Homeland; they were recruited into jobs vacated by men who had gone to fight in the war.
Visitors got acquainted with the exposition complex dedicated to the Sakhalin people who fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War and where one could see documents, personal belongings and letters from front-line soldiers: N. D. Grishchenko and A. A. Borodin.
