On July 2, the Sakhalin Regional Museum was visited by the guests of the Sakhalin Oblast, deputies of the State Duma, who participated in the round table discussion «Problems and Perspectives of Traditional Nature Management of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation».
The guests began their acquaintance with the material and spiritual culture of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North from the theatrical costume excursion-presentation «Sakhalin of Bronislav Pilsudski» which took part on the territory of the open-air museum (reconstructions of historic buildings of the Sakhalin penal colony period, summer and winter Nivkh dwellings, a fish drying rack and a cage for a bear). This Museum project is the winner of the grant competition conducted within the framework of the Energy Social Initiatives Fund and was announced as the «Best Project of 2016». The scenario of the project is based on real events, described by the ethnographer himself and published in local history books. People participated in the theatric costume performance are not professional actors, but employees of the Museum Konstantin Kuznetsov and Tatyana Chaychenko and volunteers the bearers of the Nivh culture: Antonina Nachenkina, Marina Kragina and Olga Sadinova.
MENGUME ILGA National Ensemble (in Nanai means «silver patterns») came from the town of Poronaisk with the concert program specifically for the guests. In 2017 the ensemble celebrates 35 years. Artistic director and choreographer is Alexander Vladimirovich Ukrainian. The program included the Uilta, Nivkh, Nanai and Evenki songs and dances. At the end of the concert, all representatives of indigenous peoples of Sakhalin showed together the original dance «Sakhalin Suite».
The meeting with guests ended with an excursion through the museumТs exposition «Ancient cultures. Indigenous peoples».
