The presentation of the publication «… named in hounour of the 10th anniversary of the October Revolution. The history of the Oktyabrskaya Mine. 19131963.» was held at the Sakhalin Regional Museum on August 18th, 2017.
The author of the monograph is Viktor Vladislavovich Shcheglov, Candidate of Historical Sciences, and Acting Director of the Sakhalin Regional Museum.
The book tells us about an enterprise which was once widely known but now largely forgotten – a «firstborn» of the Soviet state coal industry on Sakhalin the Oktyabrskaya Mine. Today, for most Sakhalin people this geographical name is just a point on the map. But in the first half of the 20th century, the Oktyabrskaya mining community was a small homeland for tens of thousands of Sakhalin and Kuril residents.
This publication is based on significant number of monographs, articles and archival documents, most of which were not previously published, periodical press materials, as well as memories of former residents of the mine village.
This is the first comprehensive scientific study in Sakhalin historiography devoted to the fate of a single coal mining enterprise from its establishment to liquidation.
The presentation was attended by representatives of cultural and educational institutions, the scientific community, local historians, relatives of those who linked their lives and fate with the settlement of Oktyabrskoye.
