The Sakhalin Regional Museum will celebrate Maslenitsa (Pancake Week) until February 17.
Maslenitsa week began on February 13, 2018. Maslenitsa is an ancient Slavic festival that dates back from pagan times, having somehow survived the onset of Christianity. Maslenitsa is the richest and merriest of Russia’s festivities. It runs for a whole week. Every day of the week has its special name and rituals. For centuries Maslenitsa Festival preserved the character of the national celebrations. The main idea of Maslenitsa is worthy of seeing off the winter.
Today, the guides of the Scientific and Educational Department of the Sakhalin Regional Museum conducted classes for students of 3rd Grade from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk School ¹ 13 named after. P.A. Leonov. The children learned interesting facts about this holiday: how this festival was celebrated in the past, what traditions have been preserved to the present day. The children talked with the Russian Brave Man Ivan and Bear, played various Russian games, called Spring and sent Winter to Veliky Ustyug to visit Father Frost.
