The Magic Box

The Sakhalin Regional Museum is pleased to invite you at the opening of the exhibition «The Magic Box» on March 6 at 4:00 p.m. The exhibition is timed to coincide with the celebration of the International Women’s Day.
Todays woman adorns herself with jewels, emphasizing her natural beauty, as did all her predecessors in the second half of the XX century and thousands of years ago. `
Jewelry can change the image of a woman beyond recognition, and at the same time jewelry does not necessarily need to be made of precious metals and stones. However, a woman would like to wear a piece of jewelry which match her clothes, accessories, hair and make-up. A charming smile will complete any image of the woman.
And the jewel-box will keep all the secrets of female charm and secrets safely..
The exhibition presents more than seventy items from 1950–1990, jewel boxes, ladies’ bags, jewelry, accessories, women’s clothing. Items were handed over by residents of the Sakhalin region from private collections. The history of each item is unique! Some items were left by Japanese residents, others were brought by settlers to Sakhalin, and still others are souvenirs and gifts.
Every visitor of the exhibition «The Magic Box» will see his/her exposition: the female images of a bygone era, lovely objects of the past generation or the richest cultural heritage of our country.
When you visit the museum, look carefully at artifacts:
There’s a lady in a mantle, her ring glitters brightly.
Here is Hira, hes nineteen
There is a rare Japanese Kanzashi coral hair ornament.
And this is Marya Ivanovna …
Dressed in her finest, with slit eyes,
Wrapped in gold, delighted in flattery.
You can hear whispers behind the tree.
And see only a fan and blue hanbok.
When you visit the museum, look carefully
And reveal secrets of each artifact!

The exhibition will run from March 6 to April 15, 2018.
