March 28, 2018, a lecture «Invasive Diseases of Commercial Species of Fish of Sakhalin. Parasitology Researches» was held in the Lecture Room of the Sakhalin Regional Museum. The lecture was given as part of the museum lecture series «The Natural History of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands», which for 15 years has been providing information to the MuseumТs visitors about the amazing flora and fauna of the Sakhalin Region.
The lecture was delivered by Evgeny Valerievich Frolov, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Fish Reproduction at the Sakhalin Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (FGBICU «SakhNIRO»).
The students of the Sakhalin Technical School, visitors and staff of the museum attended the lecture. Evgeny Valerievich told the public about the ichthyology and the Section of this science parasitology that studies parasites and their connection with the host and the environment, reported about the people who formed such a science: K.I. Scriabin, S.M. Pavlovsky, V.A. Dogel, about their work, regalia and the contribution of everyone to parasitology.
In addition, the lecturer gave an idea of the methods of parasitological research, about the diseases of fish and diseases that are transmitted through fish to humans. Also, attendees learned about the pathogens that cause mass death of fish, the causes of diseases and typical parasites, their appearance and localization.
At the end of the lecture, Evgeny Valeryevich recommended to use the thermal treatment when cooking fish to get rid of parasites. The attendees got answers to the questions that concern them.
