From March 25 to April 4, 2018, a Research Associate of the History Department of the Sakhalin Regional Museum, Olga Fyodorovna Solovyova, was on business trip in the village of Viakhtu, Aleksandrovsk-Sakhalinsky District. During her meetings with locals and representatives of indigenous peoples (Evenki, Nivkhi), she collected large number of memories of the founding of the village of Viakhtu and the business activities of the state farm Olenevod (Reindeer Herder).
Elena Dmitrievna Arinina told about her father Dmitry Vasilievich Tsepkov a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, who was a manager at the state farm Olenevod. Lyudmila Andreevna Machekhina and Evdokia Ivanovna Golofast (Chinkova) shared information about everyday work of reindeer herders.
Meetings with these and other respondents took place thanks to the supplementary education teacher of the boarding school, Lyudmila Yakovlevna Yuldasheva. It was she who told the story of the founding of the village and the School History and Ethnography Museum.
As a result, there were acquired rare photos of the village, reindeer herders of the state farm, participants of the ensemble of the village of Viakhtu.
