On December 12, at 1:00 pm, the final meeting of 2018 Lecture Series on the Natural History of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands will be held at the Sakhalin Regional Museum.
We invite visitors to the museum to attend a lecture «Snow-Related Hazards in Sakhalin Island», which will be delivered by Valentina Andreyevna Lobkina, Candidate of Geographic Sciences, Senior Researcher, Laboratory of Avalanche and Mudflow Processes of the Sakhalin Branch of the Far Eastern Geological Institute, Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The audience will learn what territories are considered to be snow hazardous, what processes and phenomena cause the most adverse effects on the population and the economy of Sakhalin.
There will also be shown cyclical changes in the onset of winter seasons with the maximum impact on the population and the island’s economy, and qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the processes under consideration are given.
