On December 6, 2018, a celebration event was held in the Sakhalin Regional Museum, dedicated to the anniversary of the opening of the Sakhalin Museum in the Aleksandrovsky Post in 1896 and the release of the 25th anniversary edition of the Sakhalin Museum Bulletin.
In 1995, on the initiative of Vladislav Mikhailovich Latyshev, the then director and the museum staff, the first issue of the journal was published consisting of 280 pages and a circulation of 1,000 copies. At that time it was the first museum popular science publication in the Russian Far East. So far, more than 1,000 research papers by 440 authors have been published in 25 issues of «Bulletin ….» related to local history of the Sakhalin region and the Russian Far East. The authors are specialists of museums, employees of research institutions, teachers, local historians, Russian and foreign scientists.
The guests of the event were members of the editorial board, authors of articles, representatives of the scientific community, cultural institutions of the Sakhalin region, friends and partners of the Sakhalin Regional Museum.
In a warm atmosphere, the speakers shared their memories of how the «Bulletin» was created and produced in the difficult 1990s as well as impressions about their work in the museum, noted the contribution of the organizers, the first authors and members of the editorial board, and also talked about the role of the museum edition in the promotion of knowledge among the museum and scientific community, residents of the Sakhalin region.
Among the speakers were Sergey Alekseevich Ponomarev, Chairman of the Sakhalin Branch of the Russian Geographical Society; Alexander Aleksandrovich Vasilevsky, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Head of the Department of Russian and World History of Sakhalin State University; Rinat Nigmatzyanovich Sabirov, Senior Researcher, Laboratory of Onshore Geosystems, IMGiG FEB RAS; Gennady Vasilyevich Matyushkov, Member of the Editorial Board, Head of the Natural Science Department of the Sakhalin Regional Museum; Nikolai Vasilievich Vishnevsky, one of the first authors and director of the Sakhalin Regional Museum in 2015–2016.; Valery Orionovich Shubin, Member of the Editorial Board, Deputy Director for Museum Branches and International Activities, Head of the Archeology Laboratory of the Sakhalin Regional Museum in 1978–2011, Candidate of Historical Sciences; Temur Georgievich Miromanov, Director of the Historical and Literary Museum «A. P. Chekhov and Sakhalin»; Valentina Avramovna Malysheva, Director of the Sakhalin Regional Universal Scientific Library; Yury Yuryevich Alin, Chief Editor, Director of the Sakhalin Regional Museum. M.I. Ishchenko, Candidate of Historical Sciences, representative of the first editorial board, was the guest of honor at the event. Marina Ivanovna worked in the museum from 1981 to 1998, of which 9 years as a deputy research director. Now she lives in Moscow.
This evening, participants remembered those who, unfortunately, are no longer with us and emphasized their important contribution made into the development of science and museum work in Sakhalin. These are members of the editorial board and authors of many articles published in the journal: Alexander Ivanovich Kostanov and Oleg Pavlovich Kuznetsov, Andrey Konstantinovich Klitin and Vladimir Leonidovich Podpechnikov, Viktor Ivanovich Remizovsky and Vladislav Innokentievich Yuzefov, Gennady Aleksandrovich Voronov and Oleg Aleksandrovich Melnikov, Vladimir Leonidovich Lomtev.
Today, the «Bulletin of the Sakhalin Museum» has the status of a reputed scientific journal which is popular not only among Sakhalin residents. Every year general public and specialists working in museums and libraries of the Russian Far East as well as central libraries and archives of the Russian Federation are looking forward to read articles published in this yearbook.
The administration and staff of the museum would like to express their sincere appreciation to the organizers, members of the editorial board and authors of articles who have contributed to the formation and development of the museum publication, and to all those who responded and created an amazing atmosphere of warmth, friendship and creativity on the birthday of the museum.
