On-Site Lectures of the Sakhalin Regional Museum

On February 6, as part of the Science Day Program, the employees of the Department of History and Department of Natural Science of the Sakhalin Regional Museum delivered lectures to School 32 students.
School students discovered that history is as a science (Yulia Ivanovna Din), learned that any photo is a unique historical source that contains a large amount of information (Alyona Igorevna Poznyova), found out new facts about the indigenous peoples of Sakhalin and the Kuril Island (Olga Fedorovna Solovyova), read memoirs of the first Soviet immigrants and Japanese returnees (Nadezhda Andreevna Glushkova). Also, attendees could learn more about the miners of Sakhalin (Elena Viktorovna Orlova).

Victoria Alexandrovna Dubinina, Chief Researcher of the Department of Natural Sciences of the Museum, gave a lecture on «Collecting and Preserving Insects» with the demonstration of collections of beetles, butterflies and cicadas. Also the giant hornet, the worlds largest hornet from the collection of the museum was shown. In addition, the students saw the equipment for collecting and fixing insects.

The students have shared their impressions of this Museum activity. They say they have had a very interesting event and are already waiting for our employees with new lectures.
