We Invite You To A Lecture

21.03.2019

We are pleased to invite you to a lecture «Amphibians and Reptiles of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands» to be delivered at the Sakhalin Regional Museum on March 27 at 1:00 p.m., by Alexander Vitalievich Vertyankin, Senior Researcher of the Museum.
Listeners will get acquainted with the modern herpetofauna of the region, its features, will hear about the «legendary» amphibians and reptiles that probably lived on the islands about 80 years ago.
They will learn about the sensational discovery of a snake on Kunashir Island and its most beautiful inhabitant, the «blue-tailed» lizard, and find out which reptiles and amphibians can climb trees as well as to hear about the tailed amphibian that lay in the permafrost in the ice lens for about 90 years, and what happened with it when the ice melted.
At the end of the lecture, participants see tropical and subtropical relatives of Sakhalin reptiles and amphibians — real «flying dragons» and «flying frogs».
