New Publication of the Series on Cultural Heritage Objects of the Sakhalin Region

As part of the program of events dedicated to the International Museum Day, a presentation of the brochure «Sakhalin Winter Quarters. The Place of Foundation of the Dui Russian Military Post in 1856» from the series «Objects of Cultural Heritage of the Sakhalin Region» will take place on May 18, 2019, Sakhalin Regional Museum Lecture Hall. Author: V. V. Shcheglov, Sakhalin Regional Museum Deputy Director for Research and Development, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Docent. The brochure was prepared with the assistance of the State Inspectorate of Protection of Cultural Heritage of the Sakhalin Region.
The brochure contains a brief history of the foundation of the Dui Military Post: the events related to the study and primary development of the west coast of Sakhalin by the Russians in 1852Ц55 in the area between the capes Jonquiere (Dui) and Hoji (Hoinji, Experience), which resulted in the establishment of the first permanent settlement on Sakhalin and the first administrative center of the island in 1856. It also tells a little about the life of the Post before the transfer of the administrative center to Alexandrovsky Post in 1881. In addition, it describes decisions and acts of government and municipal authorities, institutions and organizations, and individuals to perpetuate the events associated with this remarkable place.
