On May 21, 2019, episodes of «The Tatar Strait. History of Development» documentary film were shooting in the Sakhalin Regional Museum at the request of the Far Eastern Newsreel Studio and the Ministry of Culture of Russia. The film crew members, namely, Vladimir Chebanov, Alexey Sakhno, Viktor Ilyushin, Tatyana Getmanova make a film to tell about the expeditions of J. F. Laperouse, W. R. Broughton, I. F. Krusenstern, Mamiya Rinzo and G. I. Nevelskoy.
The film crew has already seen a collection of rare books of the Far Eastern State Scientific Library (Khabarovsk), filmed the training ship «Pallada» in Primorye, visited the Mamiya Rinzo Museum (Japan).
Currently the film is being shot on the west coast of Sakhalin. Plans include activities to be conducted on the mainland side of the Tatar Strait from Vladivostok to the mouth of the Amur and Shastya Bay (Bay of Happiness).
The release of the film is expected in early 2020.
