The exhibition «Koreans in Sakhalin» will open on September 14, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. at the Sakhalin Regional Museum.
The first mention of Koreans living on Sakhalin dates back to the 19th century. The 20th century saw the difficult process of formation of the Sakhalin Koreans diaspora. Currently, the Korean diaspora is an important social institution in the public life of the islands, and Sakhalin Koreans play a significant role in the social, political, economic life of the island region.
The exhibition presents authentic items from the collection of the Sakhalin Regional Museum and Educational and Cultural Center of the Republic of Korea, reflecting the history of Sakhalin Koreans, lifestyle, traditions, customs, as well as the history of the social movement. Moreover, visitors will be able to get acquainted with documents and photos from the «Se Korea Sinmun» newspaper, the regional public organization «Sakhalin Koreans», and the television group GTRK-Sakhalin «Urimal Banson».
In the Exhibition Hall you can watch video films about Korean traditions, customs and holidays, take part in traditional Korean games, attend discussions and lectures.
The exhibition will run until October 15th.
