On October 18, the ceremony of awarding an honorary citizen of the Sakhalin Region, N. N. Sandler, a participant in the liberation of the north the eastern part of China from the Japanese militarists took place in the Sakhalin Regional Museum in the hall where exhibitions dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Peoples Republic of China (October 1, 1949) and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and the People’s Republic of China had been opened.
The commemorative medal in honor of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Peoples Republic of China was presented to Nikolai Nikolaevich by Yan Wenbin, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Vladivostok.
Nikolai Nikolaevich Sandler spoke about the heroism of Soviet soldiers in battles with the Kwantung army in Manchuria, noted the importance of celebrating the upcoming anniversary of the Great Victory.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Sakhalin Regional Council of Veterans, the Young Army cadets, students from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk school No. 5, officers of the Sakhalin Regional Military Commissariat, the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and the Consulate General of the PRC in Vladivostok.
