Sakhalin Region separated, on 50 large and small islands, washed by Okhotsk and Japan Seas, on the Far East of Russia. Indigenous people — Nivkh, Ainu, Uilta (orokos) — were the first settlements of the island. In the XX century, the influence of social-political processes, change the life of indigenous people. Nowadays the number of indigenous people, nearly three thousand people. For readers of the book, presented minimum information about culture of indigenous people in the past and nowadays. From the collection of Sakhalin Regional Museum and other local museums, published maps, photos of vast variety of authors and subjects of traditional culture.
