Gennady Ivanovich Nevelskoy (1813–1876) — the outstanding Russian sailor, scientist-hydrographer, military officer, a moral and intellectual example of service of geopolitical interests of Russia. He headed the expedition. Exploring the Amur basin and proved that Sakhalin is the Island. Attached this island to Russia by peaceful means. Priamurye and Primorye became the basis borders with Japan, China and Korea. The conclusion of E. V. Putyatin Treaty of Shimoda with Japan (1855), N. N. Muravyov Aigun Treaty (1858) and N. P. Ignatyev Peking Treaty (1860). Treaties with China relied on a system of posts and settlements, based by G. I. Neevelskoy. Nevelskoy openings allowed to rescue the Pacific fleet during the Eastern (Crimean) war in 1855. The book is intended for high school students, cadets of the naval school, students and for everyone who interests in history of Russia.
